v0.3 release notes
What landed in Orbiter v0.3 — the native CV workbench for a binocular pair with a line laser, the Stereo tab, and the second-generation mechanics as STL, STEP and FreeCAD.
What's in v0.3
v0.3 adds a second capture rig to the kit — a binocular camera pair with a line laser — and the desktop software that drives it, plus the second-generation mechanics as open design files. The single-camera turntable path from v0.2 is unchanged.
Highlights
native/— the CV workbench. A PySide6 desktop app for the binocular pair, where the frame-rate computer vision lives. Calibration guided stage by stage: per-eye intrinsics with per-view residuals, the stereo pair from views both eyes saw at one instant, the laser plane, and the rolling-shutter readout time measured from the board in motion. Scanning tracks the ChArUco board between detections, finds the stripe on the GPU when there is one, places each point through the pose at its own row's instant, and accumulates a coloured cloud in the board's frame.orbiter-rigcheckmeasures whether the rig can deliver what a scan needs.- Photographs beside the scan, and
orbiter-recon. A photo session with poses and sidecars, the laser's mask and its inpainted twin for every photo, then an offline chain through COLMAP 4: by default a mesh of the laser cloud textured from the photographs;--mode denseadds our poses as the model, PatchMatch on one GPU, fusion and the merge with the laser cloud. A Docker image builds COLMAP 4.2.0 for sm_75/89/120. - Stereo tab. The web UI gains the binocular pair's settings — which
camera is which eye, per-eye orientation, a nominal baseline that a stereo
solve later replaces with the measured one — and the server the routes
behind it. Previews come straight from
camserver; only the JSON is proxied. cad/v2/— the second-generation mechanics. 25 printed parts as STL and STEP, the bought parts as meshes, the whole machine as a FreeCAD assembly with one file per part, renders of the assembly and of every part. Two near-identical rotary drive modules on an aluminium tube frame, two 6008 bearings per axis, taper inserts with an extractor, an AS5600 on both axes. Design files only so far: the server and the firmware still describe the v1 rig. The story is in the v2 mechanics post.- Fixes. The docker-compose stack starts on a fresh checkout: the server finds the CAD export inside the container, and nginx proxies the API and the scene socket.
Server, UI and the native workbench report 0.3.0. The firmware is unchanged since v0.2 and keeps its own version line.
